August Salon: Irfan Hasan

Storefront welcomes Irfan Hasan to the gallery for this month’s Salon.  Hasan, who is participating in the first-ever Art Omi/Berkshire Artist Residency Exchange, will discuss his background, experiences, painting style and content.  His works merge traditional miniature painting techniques with contemporary compositions and surreal imagery taken from his subconscious, dreams, and surroundings.  Leslie Ferrin of Ferrin Gallery and organizer of the program, moderates.

As part of his residency, Irfan has been teaching a Mughal Painting Workshop at Storefront Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and will continue the series following the discussion at 6pm.

Storefront Artist Project is excited to offer a free miniature Mughal painting workshop with resident artist Irfan Hasan of Pakistan.  This 5 week workshop explores the techniques, process, and aesthetics of traditional Mughal miniature painting. Weekly lessons include practices with pencil,  portraiture and full figure drawing, watercolor and brush work, and portrait studies in painting.

Don’t miss Open Studios tomorrow from 4-7pm.  19 artists and galleries are opening their doors after the first day of the Pittsfield Art Show.  Maps can be picked up in the Art Show programs, at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts (28 Renne Avenue), Storefront, and Ferrin Gallery.   And look for the signs, too!

Storefront Artist Project presents White on White, an exhibition of white artworks in a range of media by 18 regional artists.  This homage to monochrome was inspired by Barrington Stage Company’s upcoming production of Art,  a thought-provoking play by Yasmina Reza, on stage July 22 through August 7.

REMINDER:

This is DROP OFF WEEKEND for artists who have work to contribute to the 7×7 silent auction fundraiser.  Come by Saturday, June 26 between 11 and 5.  We can take work on Sunday as well, but between 11 and 4.  And don’t miss the opening reception/preview on Thursday July 1st!

SALON:

This Sunday, June 27 from 4-6pm, SAP will be hosting a Salon and closing reception for the current exhibition Selections from the Cultural Corridor V.  Come listen and participate in discussion about the “Cultural Corridor,” the region from Beacon NY to Bennington, VT that contains a large and diverse artist population along with an abundance of prominent cultural institutions.

Storefront Artist Project is taking the lead to organize Open Studios and Galleries in conjunction with the Pittsfield Art Show. Open Studios and Galleries will take place on Saturday, July 17, from 4-7 p.m. during the weekend of the 6th annual Pittsfield Art Show, which brings thousands of people to downtown Pittsfield and showcases more than 80 artists who participate in the weekend arts fair. Artists and gallery owners will benefit by the number of people making their way downtown to see and buy art in the burgeoning arts community in downtown Pittsfield.

Participants’ names and studio addresses will be listed on a map that will be distributed at the Pittsfield Art Show. Your website may also be included, space permitting.

Participating artists must have their studios within the following geographic boundaries:

• On the north: Linden St./Maplewood Ave.

• On the east: First St./Wendell Ave.

• On the south: Housatonic Street

• On the west: Center Street

To participate, please fill out the attached form and mail it to the Storefront Artist Project, P.O. Box 315, Pittsfield, MA 01202-0315. (Please note this is a NEW mailing address.) The cost to participate and be listed on the map is $25. Please include your payment with the attached form. Participating artists and gallery owners will receive signage that brands your gallery or studio as part of this coordinated effort.
