MISSION

1. To bring artists and art-making to underserved and diverse members of the community.

2. To present innovative art exhibitions and installations.

3. To provide non-traditional, visually accessible studio space for artists.

The Storefront Artist Project, in contributing to the health of its hometown community, seeks to establish itself as a model for revitalization in any city.

STOREFRONT ARTIST PROJECT

Following in the footsteps of its nomadic tradition, the Storefront Artist Project continues to find vacant commercial spaces in Pittsfield for artists to use for temporary projects. Available for periods of up to 6 months, these projects occasionally take place at the Storefront Artist Project’s mainspace at 124 Fenn St. in Pittsfield. Thanks to Scarafoni Associates and the Kinderhook Group in 2008, we gave spaces to Lisa Desrosiers, Jon Piasecki, Leslie Alfin, Michael St. John and Derek Zeitel.

STOREFRONT ARTIST SALON

The Salon is a monthly gathering for artists and the art-interested. Salons rotate between meeting at the Storefront Artist Project and at other locations. It is, therefore, a roving Salon meant to build community and discussions around the arts. Please check our Calendar for upcoming Salons. As part of our mission statement, the Storefront Artist Project strives to make a strong connection with local students through visiting artist programs, mentorships, and gallery/studio visits.

MENTOR PROGRAM

Throughout the year, we have artists mentor high school students in the arts. The artists are paid by the Storefront Artist Project, and it is free for all participating students. The students work in the studios of the artists getting firsthand and real-life experience in painting, photography, sculpture, cartooning, printmaking, etc. Started in 2007 with funding from Greylock Federal, it is co-funded by the annual 12×12 on 12/12 Benefit. We are looking for artists to be mentors, as well as students. To participate, call 413-442-7201.

STOREFRONT INTERN PROGRAM

The Storefront Artist Project recruits students from area colleges to intern at the Storefront.  These students assist artists, help operate our various programs and gain real-world experiences in the arts.

OPEN STUDIOS

We periodically host Open Studios as an opportunity for the community to visit the studios of area artists. To participate, call 413-442-7201.
