Think Pink: Uplifting Rhythms

Storefront Artist Project is once again proud to sponsor Think Pink, a breast cancer awareness event and art exhibit. The public is invited to attend along with breast cancer survivors, their family, friends and community advocates.  Over 60 works will be on display by artists from across the region.


OPEN STUDIOS

Come to Pittsfield and take a peek inside the studios of dozens of artists who are working downtown.  Storefront also invites the public to see the temporary work spaces of artists in the Beacon Cinema building, Eagles Club, and the Onota building at 70 North Street.

All artwork must measure 7 inches by 7 inches not including frames, or 7 inches cubed if three-dimensional. You can determine the value of your piece, as well as the amount of commission (up to 40%) that you would like to receive. All net proceeds benefit the Storefront Artist Project. Silent auction bid sheets will accompany each artwork. Low resolution images of your submission(s) are required and can be sent by email, along with the title, materials, date, value, minimum bid, and commission structure of your work, to mail@storefrontartist.org.

Storefront Artist Project is taking the lead to organize Open Studios and Galleries in conjunction with the Pittsfield Art Show, which brings thousands of people to downtown Pittsfield and showcases more than 80 artists who participate in the weekend arts fair. Artists and gallery owners will benefit by the number of people making their way downtown to see and buy art in the burgeoning arts community in downtown Pittsfield.

August Salon: Irfan Hasan

Wednesday, August 18, 5-6pm
Irfan Hasan, one of two Art Omi/Berkshire Artist Residency Exchange Artists in Residence, will discuss his background, experiences, painting style and content.  His works merge traditional miniature painting techniques with contemporary compositions and surreal imagery taken from his subconscious, dreams, and surroundings.  Leslie Ferrin of Ferrin Gallery, and organizer of the Residency program, moderates.  Hasan’s Mughal Painting Workshop will follow the salon at 6pm.  This 5-week series of classes Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm comes to a close with Persian portrait painting lessons on August 24 and 25.

Pittsfield’s 3rd Thursday

Artists Joe Staton, Scott Hanna and Mark Martin, the artist featured in SAP’s current exhibit Comic and Cartoon Art Comes Alive: The Art of Mark Martin, will be underneath the Berkshire Bank tent on North and Columbus Streets to meet, talk, sign autographs and draw for the public.  Signed sketches, posters, comic books and other items will be available with donations.  Early afternoon pre-festivities also planned.

1 DOLLAR = 1 MEAL

SUPPORT PAKISTANI FLOOD VICTIMS
NOW through Saturday, August 28

Help Storefront Artist Project and Irfan Hasan raise funds for the victims of the devastating floods in Northern Pakistan.  We will be collecting donations of ONE DOLLAR, worth one MEAL in Pakistan, today through August 28th in an effort to provide support to survivors of the flood.

All donations will help boost the efforts of Koel Gallery’s Art Auction, happening NOW.  Over 50 artists from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, UK, Canada and the US, including Irfan Hasan, have donated artworks to be auctioned at Koel Gallery in Karachi, Pakistan, in collaboration with the prominent television channel Life Line One.

HELP US MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Storefront Artist Project is excited to announce a new residency program featuring artists Irfan Hasan of Pakistan and Tuguldur Yondonjamts from Mongolia.  Having recently completed 3-week residencies at Art Omi in Ghent, NY, they have come to the Berkshires to continue their work in the United States. Hasan, who has a studio at the Springside House in Pittsfield, will be offering a FREE Mughal Painting Workshop to be held at the Storefront Artist Project.This 5 week workshop explores the techniques, process, and aesthetics of traditional Mughal miniature painting. Weekly lessons include practices with pencil,  portraiture and full figure drawing, watercolor and brush work, and portrait studies in painting.

Comic and Cartoon Art Comes Alive: The Art of Mark Martin

Pakistani artist Irfan Hasan invites the public to view new paintings completed during SAP’s Art Omi/Berkshire Artist Residency Exchange pilot program.  Hasan, as well as Mongolian artist Tuguldur Yondonjamts, came to the Berkshires following 3-week residencies at Art Omi, Ghent, NY.  This residency is a partnership between Storefront Artist Project, Art Omi and Leslie Ferrin.  Sponsors include Melanie Mowinski, City of Pittsfield, MASS MoCA, MCLA’s Berkshire Cultural Resource Center, Berkshire Museum, Norman Rockwell Museum, the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute, Bascom Lodge, Dreamaway Lodge, Project Art and the Williams College Museum of Art.
